The Hypocaust

A short walk across the park is the ‘Hypocaust building’, which contains an original Roman mosaic and its under-floor heating system. Stoked from a pit in a smaller adjoining room, hot air was drawn underneath the floor, which is supported on brick columns. It was once part of a large house.
